About the Role

This is a shared position with a total FTE of 1.4, with 0.4 FTE allocated to elective pre-preparedness services and 0.6 FTE available in this position.

In this role, you will:

  • Work collaboratively with key stakeholders to provide care for elective and acute paediatric surgical patients with complex needs under the paediatric general surgical team or where paediatric surgery is working under a shared care model.
  • Contribute to pre-preparedness services for infants, children, and adolescents needing elective procedures.
  • Use a partnership approach to navigate and develop care pathways for the infant/child/young person, their family/Whānau from admission to discharge where the health journey is complex.
  • Hold the IVN portfolio for child health in delivering IVN to inpatients including preparing patients fitting the criteria for home IVN.
  • Hold the Paediatric Pain Management portfolio, including daily pain rounds and direct liaison with the Paediatric Pain Anaesthetist.
  • Support the nursing team alongside the CNM by leading huddles, CNS-led rounds, bedside handovers, and care plan development with a focus on "What matters most" for patients and their Whānau.
  • Drive quality and change management initiatives to enhance care within the ward and wider service.
  • Provide clinical coaching, education, and leadership.
  • Collaborate with Paediatric Surgeons and Interventional Radiology to deliver the MCU & Urodynamics service.
  • Contribute to guideline and procedural review and development.

About the Team

Our team consists of 2 Paediatric surgical CNS, who work in close collaboration with the ward E4 nurses, doctors, and allied health. We are dynamic, enthusiastic, and passionate about Paediatrics and adolescent health, their whānau, and wellbeing.

About you

  • Experienced paediatric surgical nurse who is recognised for their clinical expertise, professionalism, and leadership ability.
  • Has a demonstrated commitment to child/adolescent, family Whānau care which is reflected through the process of care plan development that is person-centred, culturally, and holistically inclusive.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude and professional work ethic with the ability to share knowledge and receive constructive feedback.
  • Demonstrated and able to teach advanced assessment skills, surgical procedures, and role models doing the "What is right", following best practice and research-based evidence.
  • Brings a critical lens to the role and is open to new ways of thinking or doing to improve the care and service we provide.
  • Holds a current New Zealand annual practicing certificate.
