If you are a currently licensed clinical psychologist with experience working with children and adolescents who present eating disorder issues then I would like to hear from you.

Role

This is a full-time, 1.0, 40 hours per week position. Be part of a multi-disciplinary child and adolescent team that provides a cluster of services in a community setting supporting infants, children, and adolescents' mental health to help Tangata Whaiora (service users) achieve their maximum health potential within the specific complex area of eating disorders through assessment and/or intervention. Developing treatment programmes, understanding training to clinicians within the team, and facilitating Whanau meetings as well as family interventions are all part of the scope of this position. Maintaining relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, providing triage to clients in crisis, and undertaking other duties to keep the service running effectively and efficiently are all expected outcomes to maintain service leadership.

  • Other things discussed at offer time.
Why New Zealand
  • People are lovely;
  • You don't have to see a new patient every 15 or 30 minutes;
  • Work here is much less stressful than in the US, UK, and many other countries;
  • Great place to live and work if you are towards the end of your career and looking for an adventure for 2-3 years;
  • Excellent place to raise children with a good public school system;
  • Our highly coveted, sought after, world-class Kiwi Lifestyle.
No Burnout

Generally speaking, Clinical Psychologists from the US who now work in NZ find working here to be far less stressful than in the States. Here are some comments from expat Clinical Psychologists now working in New Zealand:

  • "You work with a team that often includes other Clinical Psychologists, a Psychiatrist, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist, and Mental Health Nurse;
  • "There is always someone who knows the patient better than you;
  • "The biggest factor is that you never see more than about five or six patients a day;
  • "Generally speaking, working here in an outpatient role has far lower stress;
  • "People are still nice here."
Registration

Registration for most overseas Clinical Psychologists is reciprocal so you don't have to sit an exam. It's easy

Compensation

The vast majority of our Clinical Psychologists are part of our public health care, community-based, mental health system and are paid via a national collective pay agreement. I'm happy to discuss salary and cost of living information with you.
