Test Lead opportunity (we are looking for an experienced Test Engineer with technical and test automation architecture experience who understands programming) to lead the test function for the NZTD product

Customs Information Services is establishing a new group to take on the technical ownership of the new developed New Zealand Traveller Declaration (NZTD) product.

We are currently seeking the Test lead (NZTD) for this newly established position to lead the Test function for this product and drive testing improvements across the team.

The Test Lead will work across multiple agencies and provide evidential assurance that what is being delivered to the customer is meeting functional and non-functional requirements, secure, stable and fit-for-purpose.

Reporting directly to the Product Owner (NZTD), and working with Customs Test Practice Manager, the Test Lead will actively help take us on a journey towards a fully integrated, fully automated testing function that covers our product's stack to optimise our path to production and reduce the risk of defects.

This is a permanent role in our Information Services (IS) group based in the Wellington Customhouse.

You will also work the Customs Test Practice Manager to provide input and help drive excellence across all team's test practices to ensure the test function is integral to the development lifecycle, and ensuring we collectively deliver quality for our customers and stakeholders.

We ideally need someone who
- has strong experience in test automation fundamentals, programming languages, SQL, database concepts, how to test APIs, service behaviour and testing non-functional requirements;
- recognizes risks in code and software architecture and create test plan elements to mitigate those risks through static analysis and dynamic analysis;
- has significant experience with DevOps implementations and continuous delivery (to reduce the manual test-effort); assisting Developers build better Unit tests;
- has experience leading a team to continuously evolve and improve, migrating manual tests to test automated pyramid model or similar and other best practices;
- provides leadership, managing team optimisation and mentoring and guiding Test Engineers;
- experience coordination across teams to produce Test Plans and Test Exit reports consumable by both technical and business audiences;
- ideally has (but not essential) a familiarity with Agile and ITIL methodologies, and tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Selenium.

Note:
this role may require on-call support, and out of normal business hours work on occasion.
