Project Engineer - Passenger

Your Role:


Reporting to the Asset Leader - Passenger, the Passenger Project Engineer has a wide-ranging role to develop, manage and deliver technical requirements, specifications and design solutions for rail vehicle projects.

This will involve identifying, developing and managing test requirements and procedures.

The Passenger Project Engineer will evaluate and audit sub suppliers and develop supplier relationships to ensure delivery of key components to meet project schedule, cost and quality requirements.

They will manage contractual requirements, identify contract variations escalate as appropriate.


The Passenger Project Engineer will also give guidance and technical support to the wider engineering group in areas of expertise to assist the overall business goals of KiwiRail.

They will identify and develop opportunities to increase productivity. They will manage risk and operational requirements to support rail vehicles' entry into revenue earning service.

They will co-ordinate with the RSAS team and stakeholders across the business to enable the delivery of rail vehicle projects.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Identify requirements, develop and implement project plans and schedules to meet key project deliverables
  • Provide and coordinate Engineering output to meet project requirements.
  • Provide advice and analysis to support the development of the Asset Management Plan for new rolling stock assets.
  • Manage within budgetary constraints the financial budget objectives and take corrective action where required to ensure the budget objectives are met.
  • Ensure projects are managed to agreed timeframes, within agreed budgets and to quality requirements.
  • Maintain compliance with all HSE legislation, regulation, code of practice, safe operating procedure and best practice relevant to your responsibility.
  • Interface with KiwiRail stakeholders to ensure project outcomes meet expectations and risks are managed or mitigated.
  • Identify and manage operational requirements. Lead risk assessments (including running rights and operational requirements).
  • Provide advice and lead reviewing/ writing/ maintaining codes, specifications and other technical process/ task documentation.

Your Skills:


The role requires a clear understanding of the management of the project lifecycle and the ability to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to achieve outstanding project outcomes.


You will ideally have a background in the delivery of works in a complex rail, transport or other infrastructure operating environment.

You will have strong relationship building capability with your peers and be able to implement best for business solutions to complex issues

Additionally:

  • Tertiary or trade qualified in engineering or mechanical maintenance.
  • 5+ years of experience in the engineering of passenger rolling stock, asset management.
  • Extensive project management experience, within rail engineering and maintenance environments
  • Extensive passenger vehicle design experience
  • Ability to lead, motivate a project team to delivery key business outcomes
  • Expertise in analysing, evaluating and problemsolving, risks and obstacles. (A lateral thinker)
  • Ability to develop and maintain constructive relationships and alliances both internally and externally
  • Ability to demonstrate a strategic focus with results in identifying opportunities and realising gains; financial, time, resource
  • Experience at working both independently and in a teamoriented, collaborative environment.
