The Wellington Transport Alliance (WTA) is a partnership between Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency, Fulton Hogan and WSP.

The WTA is responsible for managing the maintenance and operations programme for the state highways and roading networks of the Greater Wellington Region, and for delivering high service standards to the people and roading network of the region.

The Project Engineer provides site focussed engineering supervision of maintenance works by in-house crews and/or subcontractors, to ensure the safe delivery of works on time, within budget and to a high standard.

The role includes managing people, plant and materials associated with in-house crews and/or subcontractors. A strong focus on individual, crew and road user safety is imperative.

You will be responsible for:

  • Management of project works by internal and external contractors, to ensure the delivery of works on time, within budget and to a high standard
  • Adherence to company safety, environmental and quality policies and procedures
  • Prepare a specific programme to achieve the construction dates and milestones
  • Lead and champion Fulton Hogan and WTA's best practices, work procedures, health and safety, environment and quality procedures, customer relationship management on all projects
  • Ensure Fulton Hogan and WTA's procedures for supplier and subcontractor management are followed and all paperwork is completed for set up
  • Manage and develop internal capability
About you

To be successful in this role you will ideally have:

  • Tertiary engineering qualification relevant to maintaining road assets and/or delivering road projects (desirable)
  • Current drivers license
  • Minimum of 3 years work experience in road maintenance and/or road construction
  • Ability to lead, supervise and manage operational teams
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with people at all levels; within and external to the Alliance
  • A can do it safely, customer focused attitude
  • Sound operational data entry, information management and IT skills, including specialised Project Management packages
  • Strong written and verbal reporting skills
  • Previous road asset management experience (preferred)
  • Experience working in Alliance or collaborative contract teams (preferred)
