Wellington, Wellington, New Zealand McLaren Associates Full time

Chief Executive:
  • A leading organisation within the disability sector
  • Strong focus on leadership, culture and innovation
  • Role can be based in the Greater Wellington region or surrounds
Ko wai te whānau nei - Who is Community Connections?

Community Connections - Te Hāpori Āwhina Tāngata is a community based disability service offering supported living, Te Pou Hononga services (24/7 support for people with highly complex behaviours), supported employment and work transition services, and peer support groups.

They are committed to a person-centred approach based on the principles of Enabling Good Lives, which works in partnership with disabled people and their families/whānau to enable each person to live the life they choose within their own community.

Services are delivered across the Greater Wellington region, Manawatu/Horowhenua, Taranaki, Eastern Bay of Plenty and Hawkes Bay.

Mō te tūranga - About the role

As Chief Executive, you will provide strategic and operational leadership in a complex operating environment that offers both challenges and opportunities.

You will continue to develop and maintain a culture of innovation and high trust amongst the organisation's 300 staff, and continue to raise the profile of Community Connections so it maintains its reputation as a leader in the disability sector.

The sector is going through significant change in the way services are funded and delivered.

You will need to be a leader who is able to respond and adapt to a changing environment and lead change in an inclusive way as the organisation evolves.

Community Connections is moving to be a fully bicultural organisation, including conducting Māori-led research on a model for delivering Māori-led services to disabled Māori.

You will ensure that a culture of diversity is deeply embedded in the organisation, and that it is permeated throughout the organisation's mission, values and all other aspects of its operations.

This is an exciting opportunity to make an important contribution to Community Connection's future, and could be suitable for either an experienced Chief Executive or emerging senior leader.

The main office is based in Kapiti, however Community Connections is open to considering someone being based anywhere in the Greater Wellington region or surrounds.

He kōrero mōu - About you
  • A successful track record of senior leadership, preferably within a similar setting
  • A commitment to the Enabling Good Lives principles and being an ally for disabled people
  • Motivational leadership with a strengthsbased approach that supports the ongoing development of a bicultural organisation
  • Politically astute with an understanding of government processes
  • Strategic, analytical and conceptual thinking capabilities and the ability to translate strategic direction into successful operational initiatives
  • A connector and collaborator with a track record of success in building and maintaining exceptional stakeholder relationships
  • Experience working collaboratively with Māori, preferably with already established iwi/hapu links
  • Welldeveloped business acumen, contract negotiation and management skills
  • Consultative and open style with a 'no surprises' approach

Community Connections believe that diversity drives innovation and success, and they are committed to fostering an inclusive workplace where all individuals, including those with disabilities, are encouraged to apply.

They are dedicated to providing accommodations throughout the recruitment process and in the workplace to ensure equal opportunities for all; please advise us of any needs you may have.
