Wellington, Wellington, New Zealand Jacksonstone & Partners Full time

Inaugural Chief Executive:

-
Major new community-focused entity:

-
Opportunity to transform social housing in Pōneke

A new Community Housing Provider (CHP) is being established in Wellington to support the long-term provision of social and affordable housing in the city.

This brand-new organisation represents an exciting change and an opportunity to transform Wellington's social housing landscape.

Operating as an independent, charitable community housing trust, the CHP will be an entity of scale providing housing and tenancy services for 3,200 tenants and managing a portfolio of 2,000 Wellington City Council-owned properties with annual revenues of approximately $30 million.

A major focus of the CHP will be to increase housing supply and it will be supported by the Council to do so.

The creation of a CHP provides the opportunity to improve the wellbeing of current and future social housing tenants through the provision of warm, dry, safe housing and high-quality tenancy services, to add much-needed housing in Wellington, and to create partnerships in the development and delivery of housing.

The Trust is looking to appoint an experienced and passionate executive leader as the founding Chief Executive to oversee the establishment and success of the new entity.

The CHP will be operational by mid-2023 and the Board, CEO and Wellington City Council will work closely together to ensure a successful transition to the new entity for tenants and the wider community.

The Chief Executive will work closely with the Board to establish the Trust and set the direction and culture of the new organisation.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Extensive experience operating at a senior leadership level and be an exceptional people leader
  • Experience leading organisations through major transitions or change and the ability to build highperforming teams and cultures
  • Experience setting and executing strategy to achieve organisational success
  • A deep commitment to the wellbeing of the tenants, whānau and communities that the CHP will serve
  • Experience gained working in social services, community housing, property development, or other relevant sector
  • Experience and understanding of te ao Māori and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • A proven ability to manage a broad set of relationships with critical stakeholders, including central government, community housing sector, funding and commercial partners
  • Strong financial management skills and understanding of the relevant commercial context for community housing in order to set the entity up for longterm financial sustainability
  • Experience working with and reporting to a Board
  • An understanding of the machinery of Government.
This is a Wellington-based role.
