Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity' The Principal Advisor - Climate and Sustainability Reporting role ensures Waka Kotahi meets its climate and sustainability reporting expectations by overseeing, integrating and delivering the reporting in an efficient and effective way, balancing high quality outputs with minimising reporting burden for the organisation.

These expectations can include but are not limited to reporting on the transport component of the Emissions Reduction Plan and subsequent Decarbonising Transport Action Plan, National Adaptation Plan, Infrastructure Action Plan, Carbon Neutral Government Programme, and New Zealand Sovereign Green Bond Programme.

This also includes supporting effective climate related disclosures, statutory performance measures and annual environmental reporting.

Working closely with our Manager Organisational Performance, you will look to build capability across Waka Kotahi to understand and respond to challenges presented by climate and sustainability reporting expectations.

We are looking for someone who has been operating in the climate change and sustainability area and has a real interest and passion for the sector.

Ko koe tēnei | About you' To be successful in this role, you will bring:

Knowledge and experience:

  • Proven expertise and experience with a deep understanding of machinery of government and its decisionmaking processes, particularly performance monitoring and reporting.
  • Ability to work with, interpret and integrate financial and nonfinancial reporting information.
  • Ability to design and implement practical performance and monitoring frameworks and approaches.
  • Understanding of international standards and approaches to climate and sustainability reporting.
  • Sound understanding and a passion for climate and sustainability issues affecting Aotearoa New Zealand and our transport system.
  • Highly effective written and oral presentation and communication skills.
  • Proven experience in leading, influencing and building credibility across a wide range of stakeholders in a complex environment.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience (such as in sustainability, climate change, environmental science, natural resource management or public health) is desirable.
  • Training in PuMP (performance measurement methodology) is also desirable.
