Director, Property and Assets

  • Champion excellence in a diverse Ministry property portfolio
  • Influence the continuous improvement of the centralised property and asset functions
  • Support the delivery of significant property investment projects
Mō te Manatū Ahu Matua│About MPI

The Ministry for Primary Industries is an incredibly diverse organisation helping to seize export opportunities for our primary industries, improve sector productivity, ensure the food we produce is safe, increase sustainable resource use, and protect New Zealand from biological risk.

Kōrero mō te tūranga│About the Role

As the Director of Property and Assets, reporting to the Deputy Director - General Corporate Services, you will be responsible for championing the newly centralised property function, and continuing to strategically evolve the practice to support the sustainability of MPI, and delivery of it's strategic objectives.

You will inherit an active property strategy, established frameworks and current practice model and drive excellence across all areas, while seeking opportunities to raise the bar and integrate the property function further into the business.

At the same time, you will lead a growing team who govern the full remit of proactive and reactive property asset management for MPI, while working in partnership with pockets of the business around the management of their specialist property assets and facilities.

As such, a key focus will be to coach and develop the existing team, including third party providers, ensuring they are in the best position to deliver the highest level of operational excellence and service delivery across the Ministry.

Above all, you will play a pivotal role at senior leadership level, providing strategic property and asset guidance to significant property development projects, and influencing key decisions around investment, best practice asset management, and cross agency collaboration.

Mōu│About You

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Bring an extensive strategic and operational property, facilities and asset management background from within the private and/or public sector.
  • Be an experienced senior leader of high performing, specialist teams, with significant experience managing partnerships with a variety of thirdparty providers and consultants at senior levels, ensuring performance and successful outcomes.
  • Bring a strong commercial nous, with a proven background leading complex commercial contract, project and lease negotiations, as well as providing effective programme governance.
  • Have a proven track record of successfully driving strategic change and improvement within a diverse property function, having experienced the challenges in developing the operating model of a large portfolio.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior property practitioner and pioneering leader to progress MPI's Property and Asset Management Journey and continue to shift the dial from operational maintenance to strategic asset performance.
