  • 12hour shifts (4 days on 4 days off) alternating days/nights on a bimonthly basis
  • Continuing (i.e. permanent) position

Āu Mahi | What You Will Do

The role will involve a rotating roster of 4 on 4 off shifts spanning 12 hours per shift with a rotating changeover of 8 weeks on day shift and 8 weeks on night shift.


You will be responsible for the 24-hour operation of the security front desk including the monitoring of all security & fire alarms for the University and the supervision of the security team.


Your key responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring the University's access control system, assist students and staff with access enquiries and respond to all access alarms.
  • Supervise the afterhours activities of the service desk, security control room and security officers.
  • Manage lost and found property using the relevant established procedures.
  • Monitor the 24hour CCTV system.
  • Coordinate emergency services / 111 requests and act as the first point of contact on the campus to ensure emergency service personnel are deployed to the where their assistance is needed.
  • Coordinate activities such as the University evacuation procedure, alarm response and implement contingency plans when required.
  • Accurately record all incidents and ensure the relevant reports are completed.
  • Supervise contracted security staff, ensuring their prompt attendance and appropriate dress code and that security reports are written in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • Book out and ensure the return of all items of security equipment e.g. radios, etc.
  • Develop and maintain a high level of knowledge and awareness about the campus, with the ability to participate in shift work.

Mōu | Who You Are
You have experience in security as well as experience in a customer service focussed role.

Having experience in a large organisation is preferred however if you are willing to learn new processes and systems, this isn't necessary.

You are an adaptable person and can pragmatically solve problems when required. As you will be the face of the security office, it's important you are positive and helpful.


We are looking for a motivated individual with computing knowledge and the ability to learn as they go in an ever-changing environment.
