The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet's (DPMC's) purpose is to advance an ambitious, resilient and well-governed New Zealand.

The Legal Services Team provides legal advice and support to the department, and the National Emergency Management Agency ('NEMA' - a departmental agency hosted by DPMC), on a wide range of corporate, policy and operational matters relating to national security, emergency management, child wellbeing and poverty reduction and much much more.

This Senior Solicitor role is a fixed term/secondment for 12 weeks (until 18 August).

The position has been established to provide additional legal support to the Legal Services Team to cover a period of planned leave by members of the team.

The role would suit someone with at least 7 years PQE, and who:

  • has experience providing on advice on a range of corporate matters (contracts, grants, delegations, health and safety) and also has an interest in supporting other legal matters facing the department (inquiries, legislation reform, emergency management response and recovery);
or
- has experience or an interest in emergency and crises management or national security interests - including legislation reform work

What you will bring | Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu

  • At least 7 years PQE
  • Public law expertise
  • Extensive knowledge of the machinery of government with a highlevel understanding of the legislative process
  • Corporate experience, including reviewing contracts, as well as knowledge of government procurement rules and processes
  • Excellent written skills
  • Confident, with the ability to build, maintain and leverage relationships at all levels
  • Admitted to the Bar in New Zealand with a current practising certificate
