We are searching for a skilled and experienced Network Engineer who is proactive, dynamic, and ready to join us on a data network journey.

There is virtually nothing that happens in our organisation that does not depend in some way on Information Technology.

About the role:


As a Network Engineer, you will work as a trusted advisor assisting multiple customers with ICT systems support and project delivery.


What you need to succeed:

  • Great experience in layer 2 and layer 3 networking, including Enterprise wired and WiFi networks.
  • Thorough understanding of Network Security, and have worked with Enterprise level firewall products.
  • Experience with Cisco DNA Centre and ISE tools.
  • Network monitoring and management, capacity planning, and making sure service levels are always met.
  • Sound Cisco IOS knowledge and good familiarity with other vendors' toolsets such as packetlevel analyser tools, network management platforms, and network asset management tools.
  • Good understanding of Software Defined Networking technology.
  • Hold Cisco or other large network vendors certification or be well on your way to achieving it.

About you:

You will be customer orientated with excellent consulting and communication skills. You will enjoy working with people to understand their business, build relationships, solve problems and mentor team members.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Information Systems or a related field or 5 years relevant experience to demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge.
  • Minimum of 4 years network configuration and support experience in a large organisation or complex network environment.
  • 2 years minimum experience deploying change in a structured environment (preferably ITIL focussed), including planning, testing, documentation and communication of change.
  • Knowledge of cloud infrastructure and core components.
  • Sound knowledge and experience supporting and maintaining Cisco network devices, including the configuration of switches, routers, firewalls and wireless access points.
  • Extensive IT technical experience and knowledge of Microsoft core server technologies such as AD and AAD Identity; Exchange; Modern Workplace; Microsoft 365;
  • Understand firewalling & security technologies & principles.
  • Contribute to the establishment of standards for software/hardware implementation procedures and performance by making recommendations and working in conjunction with the Team Leader.

Hours of work - 40 hours
Location - This position is primarily based at 53 Hereford Street, Christchurch City Council.
