About New Zealand Blood and Organ Service
New Zealand Blood and Organ Service (NZBS) is dedicated to saving lives. Every year, tens of thousands of generous people donate their time, blood and plasma to us for free.

In addition to our vein to vein service in transfusion we also provide national services in organ transplantation, cellular therapies and tissue banking.

We exist to ensure the efficient delivery of safe blood and tissue products on a time critical basis throughout New Zealand and through the generosity of our donors, we are able to help save lives.

Organ Donation New Zealand (ODNZ) is a division of NZ Blood Service (NZBS), and coordinates the donation of organs and tissues from deceased donors throughout New Zealand.

This unique service also provides support for families, education for health professionals, and information to the public.

Our shared values are at the heart of our organisation's culture and guide our behaviour each and every day. These values inspire, motivate us and drive us to provide the very best service to the New Zealand public.

About the role

As a donor coordinator/nurse specialist you will work as part of a small team responsible for ensuring the delivery of high standards of clinical practice for all aspects of the organ and tissue donation process in NZ.

This is a challenging and busy role, coordinating and facilitating the whole of the process of organ donation.

This includes liaising with families and various clinical teams and agencies both in NZ and Australia to ensure the safe, efficient and timely referral of organs and tissues to transplant centres and tissue banks.

Raising awareness of Organ Donation is pivotal to the success of the service, and you will also be involved in providing education and training on all aspects of organ and tissue donation to both hospital staff and relevant academic institutions.

Salary offered starting at $118,530 to $130,002 (raising to $122,086 to $133,902 in April 2024) depending on skills, registration, and experience.

About you

We are seeking an energetic, enthusiastic, experienced registered nurse who is ready to advance their career and join a group of dedicated senior nursing and medical specialists as part of a small team.

You must be keen to help us further develop the service and enthusiastic about extending your own skills.

You will be able to work calmly under pressure, be flexible and adaptable to emerging clinical needs, and to communicate effectively and professionally with a wide variety of different health professionals throughout Australasia.

Excellent organisational and critical thinking skills are essential, and experience in an acute care setting, working with bereaved people, along with leadership, teaching and writing skills are valued advantages.

If you would like to discuss the requirements of the role further, please feel free to contact Sue Garland or Annette Flanagan on
