Head Medical are working with a TertiaryReferral centre seeking post foundation doctors for opportunities within Cardiology. You will be based in Hamilton and enjoy being part of a supportive team whilst broadening your clinical skills and knowledge with an array of educational opportunities.

The Role

The Hospital in Hamilton is one of the largest tertiary teaching hospitals with over 600 inpatient beds and 22 operating theatres and provides local services for a population of 200,000 and tertiary services for a region of 700,000. Waikato serves the largest Māori population and third largest Pacific population in Aotearoa New Zealand. Clinical specialities include Women's and Children Services, Cardiology / Cardiothoracic Surgery, Oncology and Haematology, Surgical services, and Mental Health and Addiction. The Hospital is the Midland regional referral centre for multiple specialties including trauma surgery, oncology, and neurology.

You will work as part of a supportive team in a department where all cardiac subspecialties including advanced imaging, electrophysiology, structural and acute cardiology are represented. The service admits approximately 6,000 patients a year and performs 3,000 to 4,000 angiograms, 1,000 angioplasties as well as over 400 electrophysiological procedures. There are nine cardiologists and 8 Senior Medical Officers on the ward.

The Location

Situated right on the banks of the mighty Waikato River, Hamilton is the 4th largest city in NZ and it continues to expand. Key to this growth is its central location, easy access to other parts of the country and its affordability.

Auckland is onlya 90 minute drive north and Tauranga is just over an 1hr to the east.The west coast and east coast beaches are within easy reach at weekendsfromRaglan, Mount Maunganui, Waihi Beach and of course,the stunning Coromandel Peninsula. And don't forget the 18 tranquil lakes towards Rotorua, also just 1hr 30mins away.

Enjoy thepremier ski fieldsduring ski season at Turangi and Whakapapa. Nearby Lake Karapiro hosts national rowing anddragonboat regattas each summer. The FMG Stadium Waikatohosts a range of top quality sports from rugby league, rugby sevens and football. Seddon Park is home to cricket in the Waikato, with large cricket events in the summer (the Blackcaps taking on visiting international teams). It's also not far to drive to Hobbiton, which is a great place to take the family for a day out.
