Listening, learning, changing/ Mā Whakarongo me Ako ka huri te tai.This captures the spirit the Government brings to its work with the Royal Commission, and to what we, the Crown Response Unit does in response to the Royal Commission's recommendations.

The Crown Response Unit coordinates the Government's response to the Abuse in Care Royal Commission of Inquiry.

Our current work programme is focused on responding to the Royal Commission's interim report that recommended the development of a new independent redress system for survivors.

The Commission also recommended, and the Government agreed to four immediate pieces of work ahead of the establishment of the new independent redress system. These are:

  • Establishing a service for survivors to share their experiences of abuse in care
  • Improving survivor's access to their care records
  • Progressing rapid payments for historical abuse claimants
  • The opportunity to contribute to the Government's response to a significant inquiry, focussing on survivor healing and reconciliation.

About the role | Mō te tūranga

The purpose of the Senior Advisor is to deliver service design initiatives that incorporate survivor voices and ultimately meet the objectives of the CRU. This role will apply best practice service design approaches to develop solutions that appropriately provide redress to survivors and their communities.

This role will work closely with the System Lead to deliver human-centred design processes, and work within the CRU and the wider system to gain the diverse perspectives when developing services.

Currently this team is working closely with the Policy team to shape up advice to Ministers on a new redress system. This focus includes advice on policy settings and key design features of a new system, together with options for phasing and implementation. The outcome of this work will lead into the detailed design phase.

  • Proven senior level experience in human centred design.
  • Experience with regulatory, governance, service delivery and policy implementation programmes of work.
  • experience in leading or contributing to inter-agency work and building relationships across organisations
  • Ability to work well within and across teams in a dynamic, fast paced and at times ambiguous environment.
  • Experience of government, public sector delivery structures and systems.
  • Sound knowledge of and respect for the Principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Sound knowledge of tikanga Māori and how this is used in a work setting.
  • General knowledge of te reo and how this is applied in a work setting.
  • An understanding and appreciation of issues and concerns within the Māori,Pasifika, whaikaha/Deaf and disabled communities.
  • knowledge relevant to the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse in Care
