About the Wellington Transport Alliance

The Wellington Transport Alliance (WTA) is a partnership between Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency, Fulton Hogan and WSP.

The WTA is responsible for managing the maintenance and operations programme for the state highways and roading networks of the Greater Wellington Region, and for delivering high service standards to the people and roading network of the region.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Foreperson to lead our maintenance crew on the WTA.

As a Foreperson, you will assist the Supervisor in ensuring that all crew members are safely, effectively and efficiently completing their work in compliance with the relevant instruction and specifications.

This role is based from our Petone office and will look after the Wellington area of our network.


You must be a strong leader with excellent critical thinking skills, as you will be a key point of contact for the crew and will report to the Supervisor on all operational activities.

A focus on health and safety is imperative to this role, as you must assist in driving a strong safety culture in all day-to-day operations.


In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring all work is carried out in compliance with the relevant instruction and specifications
  • Developing and coaching your crew to develop their skill sets
  • Ensuring your team complies with Health & Safety policies and legislation, to maintain the safety of yourself, your team and the public
This is a hands on role.

You will be expected to muck in and undertake maintenance activities to support the crew as and when required, and lead by example.


About you:
To be successful in this role you will ideally have

  • A full class 2 licence with WTR endorsements (essential)
  • Previous experience in road maintenance
  • Great time management skills to ensure goals and deadlines are met
  • A safetyfirst approach to ensure the safety of yourself, your team and the public
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A positive, cando attitude with proven ability to lead a team
  • Ability to do night shifts as well as callouts
  • Ability to organise plant and materials when delivery programmes are given
