We're looking for Straddle Operators to join us to at our brand new purpose built Distribution Centre in Ruakura from July onward.


As a Straddle Operator, you'll be working on your own for long durations with a radio as your only communication mechanism.

Your office is a small cab suspended 13 meters above the ground where you need to climb up and down a ladder to take your breaks.

You'll be predominantly working Monday - Friday on day or afternoon shifts, with potential weekend work during peak periods.

What you'll be doing

  • Operating the straddle safely on day or afternoon shift, with rotation to other tasks within functions of the DC
  • Operating the container yard management system (CYM) to locate and move containers within the yard
  • Ensuring container plans are set up for the devanning crews
  • Completing and maintaining preoperational log book checklists
  • Working on our forklifts to move product around the site as required


There will be extensive training for you upon commencement, both on site and simulated, to understand the new site layout and how to operate a Kalmar straddle crane, prior to the DC opening in September.


To be successful in this role you'll have:

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in Straddle Operation, or proven similar heavy machinery driving experience and container yard management experience. Full Straddle training will be provided
  • Experience in fast moving logístical environments
  • Flexibility and willingness to jump between Straddle and DC operations as required
  • A great work ethic and a positive attitude
  • Willingness and ease of working at heights
  • Good communication skills
  • Great time management skills and the ability to work unsupervised
  • The ability to meet deadlines
  • A willingness to follow standard operating procedures
  • Demonstratable adherence to strict health and safety procedures
