About the Team:

The Investigation Team investigates the more complex and serious accidents, incidents and mishaps. They operate under both the maritime Transport Act (MTA) and the Health and Safety at Work Act (HSWA).

In addition to identifying key safety issues, the team also ensures people who do not comply with Maritime rules and regulations, as well as obligations under HSWA are held to account.

By holding people to account for non-compliance, the Team also promotes future compliance and contributes to improving safety culture more broadly.


What you'll do:

As our Victim Support Officer you'll be responsible for ensuring quality services are provided to victims of maritime incidents.

You'll engage with victims and their families to assess their needs and ensure appropriate resources are made available to them.

You'll provide end to end case management to victims by ensuring that all processes and procedures for case management and support of victims are conducted in accordance with best practice and ensure that victims have the appropriate support to have their voices heard through victim impact statements, participation in restorative justice processes, and any related processes.

Working closely with our Regulatory Operations staff you'll provide support to help them understand their roles in victim support and advise and mentor investigators and legal staff on victim rights and support requirements including during the pre-prosecution stages of an investigation.


What we're looking for:

  • A Relevant tertiary qualification preferably at post graduate level or equivalent experience
  • Proven experience and knowledge of victim support or similar (e.g. bereavement support, family violence support)
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to communication at all levels
  • Effective time management skills and use of initiative with a proven ability to prioritise tasks and work to deadlines
  • Strong client focus with the ability to build rapport and maintain relationships with people across all levels within the organisation
  • A high degree of self
- motivation, initiative, a positive attitude and a team player

  • Ability to work in a culturally safe and respectful manner, always being mindful of the cultural diversity of the industry and having regard to Te Ao Māori and Treaty of Waitangi principles
