As a key member of our team, you will be a key player in designing and developing new technologies with a major focus on the scale-up of processes from lab/pilot scale to pilot/demonstration scale.

The Role

The position is full-time fixed term position (until end of January 2025) and will be located at our site in East Tamaki, Auckland. You'll report to the Director of Engineering and work closely with the Chemistry Lead. Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the engineering and design for the scale up of a new recycling process and supporting plant infrastructure.
  • Fabrication and installation of pilot equipment, engineering and design input for pilot and demo scale plant, leading the engineering effort and technical governance, .
  • Assistance with pilot plant equipment specification, procurement, build and commissioning support.
  • Review and assist with the interpretation of lab/pilot plant scale results and translate this to meaningful data for demonstration plant design and build.
  • Help identify and optimize new technologies for process simplification and other value improvement initiatives to support future plant and new technology developments.
  • Assist with engineering documentation and reports for project stage gate approvals where required.
  • Direct communication with a chemistry focused R&D and commercial teams.
  • Liaise with external parties including specialist consultants, technology and equipment suppliers when needed, and with external vendors during plant design, build and testing phases.
  • Where required, carry out in-depth root cause analysis through methodical troubleshooting and propose fit for purpose, safe and cost-effective solutions.

Skills and Experience

As a company that was born in a dingy basement, everyone at Mint has a "can do, no fuss" attitude and our Process Engineer will be no different.

Our ideal candidate will have as many of the following qualities as possible:

  • BE (Hons) or BTech degree in Mechanical or Process Engineering. Other engineering disciplines will be considered
  • Good practical experience post qualification, including hands-on experience with pipe fitting and welding & experience in workshops & fabrication
  • Proficient with engineering software applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Able to work closely with and collaborate with engineers and scientists
  • Self-motivated with a positive and practical "can-do", roll-up-your-sleeves attitude to getting things done, solution-orientated mindset
