About the team
As part of our Asset Information Management group, the GIS team maintains and develops Transpower's Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

With a focus on collating, analysing and making accessible location-based big data and information to assist with planning, running and maintaining the national grid, the team works closely with our Property and Environment teams, and our Grid Development, Grid Delivery and Customer Services teams.

They also partner with contractors, consultants and external agencies.

About the opportunity
As our Principal Geospatial Specialist - Systems you will ensure the delivery of information and services with an emphasis on Geospatial products and systems, and:

  • be the technical lead in support and analysis for GIS services, geographic mapping, data, systems and products
- identify, assess and recommend new technologies and capabilities to support our organisation's current and future requirements and develop technical solutions that will deliver new or enhanced GIS capability
- promote geospatial resource investment to develop innovative solutions that are fit for users, readily operated and maintained
- support and advise on the strategic direction to the GIS team so that it delivers the organisations current and future requirements

About you


Based in Wellington, your qualifications in GIS and 10+ years of technical experience will have honed your understanding of Geospatial systems and provide support and advice on fit-for-purpose products to the business.


As a key point of GIS technical contact for internal and external customers, your superb communication and presentation skills allow you to move between business and technical environments with ease to ensure understanding and commitment from all parties.


To be considered, your CV and cover letter will demonstrate:

  • Proven in-depth knowledge and competence in the back end of GIS software, ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise toolsets (Server, ArcGIS Pro, Portal), AGOL and GeoEvent extension
  • Experience with Safe Software FME server product for automating workflows, managing data transformation, and data analysis and reporting tasks
  • Experience in Arcade, HTML, SQL scripting
  • Experience in system administration
  • Management of data in relational database management systems (DBMS e.g. Oracle and SQL Server) and currency with development in GIS systems and sector
  • A qualification in geographic information systems, computer science or an equivalent tertiary qualification
