Transpower has a dual role as New Zealand's owner and system operator of the National Grid.

As the sole transmission network asset owner, we keep the energy flowing - transporting high voltage electricity from where it is generated to cities, towns, and some major industrial users.


As the System Operator, Transpower operates the electricity market and power system 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.


About the team

About the opportunity - available due to internal promotion


As our Security Solution Designer, you'll enjoy a stimulating role that will fully utilise your technical expertise and you'll work as part of a team that designs, implements, and manages the lifecycle of security controls of both corporate and critical systems.


Your mahi will include:

  • Security solution design throughout its development and delivery
  • Ensuring that the solution considers operability through active engagement of the operational delivery team(s)
  • Shaping projects and technical implementations of the projects service new or an upgrade within our security services that are in place (firewall replacements, etc.,)
  • Providing the interface with major outsource suppliers for Transpower's IT

What will you bring?


You'll have extensive design knowledge of security and/or network services based on an in-depth technical background underpinned by a relevant degree and/or experience.

Having worked in large complex environments, you'll be known for your effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to ensure security compliance and effectiveness.


To be considered, your CV and cover letter to will clearly demonstrate:

  • At least 5 years' experience in systems design and development.
  • Ability to translate user requirements into security technical designs and specifications within a solution architecture and while creating and/or maintaining the endtoend technical integrity of the system.
  • Experience with the development of services in a mainstream development environment, preferably in a telco or utilities
  • Demonstrated success as a technical leader within a project team
  • Experience of leading suppliers to produce high quality design and implementations.
You will also hold Cyber Security technical certifications.
