With around 300 employees WEL Networks, owned by and working for the community, has been serving the Waikato for over 100 years, distributing power from the national grid, connecting over 160,000 people to electricity services.


Based in Hamilton, we play an essential role in the region's economic and social development by identifying and investing in new technologies that will modernise our network and future-proof our region.

About the role


As the IT Operations Manager, your focus will be on enhancing WEL Networks business operations by ensuring IT systems perform to an optimum level.

You will lead, coach and mentor an energetic and effective team of IT Engineers as they support the business and provide a platform that is both reliable and responsive to the business' needs.

You will continue to embed a culture customer-focus and approachability.

In this role you will:

  • Manage a diverse highperforming technical team
  • Posses a breadth of technical knowledge and understanding from desktop to backend systems
  • Manage service queues and ensure the team resolves incidents in a timely fashion
  • Have a good understanding of MS licensing models and the MS M365 stack
  • Confidence to act as a point of escalation for your team
  • Identify and implement efficiency improvements
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage with key business stakeholders
  • Participate in client meetings and peer review processes
  • Work collaboratively to meet organisation wide goals and objectives
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of WEL's IT strategy

About you

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A relevant tertiary level qualification in IT or related field
  • Strong leadership skills and experience leading technical teams
years' experience in an IT infrastructure environment

  • A minimum of 2 years' experience using Virtualization technologies (esp. VMWare)
  • Solid experience managing Cloud Infrastructure
  • Outstanding presentation and verbal/written communication skills
  • Electricity/utility experiences are an advantage
