Work in a team where you'll support the day to day operations of the Supreme Court by managing appeals from other court decisions, organising and running court hearings, working with different customers across the court business and supporting new initiatives designed to give the court greater transparency.

Te Haeata/The Opportunity
As a Court Registry Officer, you will work with a team responsible for the successful operation of the Court.

You will liaise with multiple stakeholders including Members of the Judiciary and support staff, other court registries, defendants, family members, Lawyers, and other government agencies.

You will need to be able to communicate confidently with Judges within the courtroom and their chambers, as well as other members of the judiciary.


Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Court Taking this is the organisation of court hearings and facilitating the running ofthe court. This includes introducing Judges (in English and Te Reo Maori), workingclosely with judges, lawyers, media and interested parties in the courtroom, usingtechnology to provide greater access to the courtroom and general administration of the court.
  • Case Management taking responsibility for ensuring that the Judiciary and caseparties have all the information they need. Ensuring the formal court record for all casesis accurate and up to date, proactively managing all events or activity on each caseensuring court timetables are adhered to. The completion of the Appeal ManagementSystem (AMS) data base for every case, which involves data entry.

To be successful, you will need to be:

  • Able to work using high levels of initiative
  • you'll be motivated to get things done. You will be able to take new ideas and make them happen and act at times withoutspecific direction.
  • Detail orientated and observant attention to detail essential. The court has manydifferent processes. Case information and publicly available information needs to beaccurate.
  • Selfaware you'll understand our customers and will be confident working across arange of situations.
  • Multitask you'll understand that some of our processes are repetitive, but you'll beable to manage conflicting priorities and move from one task to another quickly.
  • Willing to learn legislation and processes in the courts is always changing and you willbe able to adapt and respond to feedback.
  • Resilience there are times when working in the courts, you will be working on sensitivecases and sometimes at high volume.
