Mō te tūnga | About the role
This role is part of our recently established Systems Change & Capability function within the Ministry.

We are focused on ensuring that work underway to implement our environmental policy and regulatory activity incorporates a multi-disciplinary approach drawing on behaviour change, systems thinking, design thinking, mātauranga Māori - all grounded in systems-based thinking and user-centric approaches.

This opportunity calls for a senior practitioner in our team for all aspects of Service Design, Design Thinking and user-centric processes.

As a practitioner, you will be heavily involved in both the doing and the guiding of our implementation activity, supporting design approaches to uncover project, stakeholder and partner needs and pain points.

Critical to your success will be your commitment to whanaungatanga and manaakitanga.

You will proactively engage and consult across our implementation portfolio to offer a range of perspectives and coaching to help incorporate Service Design and Design Thinking approaches into our work at the outset, which will enable the development of effective and impactful approaches for our projects and teams, and ultimately build our service design capability across the Ministry.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

  • Significant practical experience using a broad range of service design methods, tools and approaches, ideally blended with Māramatanga Māori concepts, particularly in service design and development, design thinking, usercentric workshop facilitation and codesign practices.
  • A love of service design and design thinking, improving system and service design and have successfully brought better services to life across a wide range of settings.
  • Highly organised with a track record of managing all execution details across multiple projects without dropping the ball. You jump easily from intent to detail and back again. You work transparently so everyone knows what's happening and when.
  • Willingness to learn and engage with te ao Māori and whakaaro Māori.
  • You will always act with high emotional intelligence, low ego and deep empathy to build a broad base of cocreators.
  • You are skilled facilitator and designpractice coach. You will allow others to learn and develop in ways that strengthen them.
  • You will act with a design ethos reflecting, iterating and continually seeking better ways to deliver more significant impact whilst improving and refining your design practice.
Whānuitanga Utu ā-Tau | Salary range
Salary range for this role is from $105,802 to $128,424 pa. Appointment within this range will be based on skills and experience.
