Tēnei tūranga - About the Role:
The Senior Advisor sits within the Stakeholder Engagement Unit.

The unit owns the relationships with senior external stakeholders and leads the direction for stakeholder engagement with identified employment sectors, migrant communities and immigration specialists.


The Senior Advisor contributes to the operational management and delivery of stakeholder engagement in line with Immigration New Zealand (INZ) strategic priorities.

The role is responsible for providing high quality advice for the team that transforms stakeholder insights to tactical opportunities that deliver strategic objectives and continuous improvement.

The Senior Advisor has a working knowledge of the immigration system coupled with an understanding of the needs and interests of multiple stakeholders to leverage capability and capacity across the Customer branch.

Skills and Experience Required

  • The ability to effectively analyse, plan and coordinate, and the ability to quickly develop recommendations based on quantitative and qualitative evidence to inform operational improvements
  • Experience in business writing/report writing and business case development
  • Sound understanding of immigration operations and of managing and developing organisationwide systems, policy and processes with the ability to build on knowledge for particular sectors, customer groups or visa types
  • Ability to influence others, including upwards, working across a system
  • Ability to identify and assess organisational risk, long term potential outcomes and potential consequences and trends, linking this to INZ strategic priorities and escalate accordingly
  • A working understanding of the Immigration System and/or the mechanisms of government
