Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role

It's an exciting time here at the Ministry of Education and we are on the hunt for a Project Advisor to join an exciting programme within the Te Puna Hanganga, Matihiko, as we embark on a major transformation.

This role will be focussed on overseeing the implementation of transformational work to help improve the way the Ministry plans and invests in infrastructure.

It underpins how the Ministry will meet the Government target of all schools providing quality learning environments by 2030.

The Project Advisor has a key role in providing senior technical support, advice and thought leadership on the development, change impact and implementation of new frameworks, processes, systems and tools.


The role also involves:

  • Coordinating and delivering on key project activities.
  • Undertaking analysis of change impact and providing recommendations.
  • Leading the development of lean business processes.
  • Leading key stakeholder meetings and workshops (including meetings with external suppliers.
  • Developing key project documentation such as business processes, transition plans, implementation plans and communications collateral.
While we're looking for project experience, knowledge of asset management practices would be an advantage.

The salary for this role is $92,598 per annum.

Mōhou ake | About you

If you're excited about change and can work confidently in a transformational setting, to help guide and develop the tools we need to succeed, then we're keen to hear from you.

You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori.

You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.


You will also demonstrate:

  • Experience and proven expertise in a senior role responsible for the development and implementation of servicefocussed practice guidance, preferably in a large and/or complex operational delivery context.
  • Indepth understanding of service design principles, proven expertise in the development of practice standards and guidance, and evaluation methods.
  • A track record of success and results in project planning and project management.
  • Good relationship skills and the ability to facilitate outcomes through personal credibility and influence an effective leadership presence with peers.
