This is a unique opportunity to do rewarding technical work in the most exciting workplace - the City Rail Link tunnels, stations, sites and head office.


The City Rail Link (CRL) project is a game-changer for Auckland and is the largest transport infrastructure project ever undertaken in New Zealand.

The CRL is a 3.45km twin tunnel, transforming the dead-end station at Waitematā (Britomart), creating 2 new stations at Te Wai Horotiu (Aotea) and Karanga a Hape and reconnecting at a redeveloped Maungawhau (Mt Eden) station.

Link Alliance is a group of seven companies working together to deliver the stations, tunnels and systems of the City Rail Link


The work you will be doing will ensure the tunnelling systems keep running, communications systems stay available and our team members stay safe.

The first tunnel has been completed and with the second tunnel now underway, there is plenty of action.

This fixed-term contract is to provide support while the tunnel boring machine makes its way through to the city and the underground areas interconnect.

You will be responsible for the maintenance, changes, and growth of the network inside the tunnels and on the surface at sites.

Under the guidance of the IT systems administrator, you will ensure the network is highly available and meets the continuously evolving requirements of New Zealand's largest-ever construction project.

The network connects to the following systems you will also be responsible for:

  • Operation of the tunnel safety software and devices
  • Access control systems (gates, doors and turnstiles)
  • Interfaces to the tunnel boring machine and other projectrelated equipment
  • Communication systems (SIP and IP radios)
Technical requirements

  • VLANs
  • WiFi networks, antennas and alignment
  • TCP/IP and routing
  • Ubiquiti, UniFi and Aruba hardware
  • Fibre optic cables
  • Windows server
  • VPNs
  • Accessing systems via RDP
Required skills

  • Outstanding troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent network skills: the physical layer, (copper, fibre, Wi-Fi), layer two VLANs, ethernet and layer three and above protocols and routing
  • Ability to configure switches, Wi-Fi, routers and perform firmware updates.
  • Be able to produce a high standard of documentation
  • Strong communicator with good speaking and writing skills
