Mō te tūranga - About the role


The role of the qualified and registered Housing Social Worker position is to deliver a professional, empathetic, and effective service to people and families needing long-term sustainable accommodation and advance the mission of The Salvation Army.


With skills, planning and purposeful action, you will support people to find a home and neighbourhood in which they will build the future of Aotearoa.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a hard-working team with a commitment to supporting whānau, and to work with a long-standing social service provider partnering with the community to tackle homelessness.


He kōrero mōu - About you

  • Proven relevant Social Work experience of at least two years
  • Holds a recognised Social Work Degree Qualification or equivalent
  • Fully registered with the Social Work Registration Board
  • Clean full driver's licence
  • Be legally entitled to work in New Zealand
  • Strong relationship building
  • Previous or current experience in transitional housing would be advantageous
  • Ability to understand and relate to people from diverse backgrounds and who are experiencing hardship, trauma and/or mental unwellness
  • Role modelling commitment to engage and journey with people, providing support for personal responsibility and motivation to achieve own goals
  • Maintains a high level of professional practice recognising the dignity, and individuality of clients
  • Computer literate including Teams, Outlook and Office 36
  • Able to relate to people with sensitivity, care and patience
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills
  • A strong understanding of, and a heart for, social justice issues
  • Ability to work to targets and deadline
  • Ability to work proactively, problem solve and meet multiple demands
  • Strong cultural competency, with the ability to work from a bicultural perspective

The starting salary for this role is likely fall between $68,037.77 and $102,000.00.
