About the Opportunity


The Portfolio Management Office (PMO) within Fonterra's Technical Excellence function plays a critical role in delivering the infrastructure and operational capability needed to achieve some of Fonterra's most important strategic business goals.

We are looking for 2 x Design Managers to lead our Remediation and Growth portfolios.

Reporting to our Portfolio Manager (Remediation & Growth), the Design Manager for Remediation will be responsible for managing the design development of our refurbishment projects, whereas the Design Manager for Growth will be responsible for new capital projects nationwide, from concept to detailed designs, ensuring that all design reviews are completed, and any changes are strictly controlled.


You will be accountable for managing design with tight constraints, coordinating the design team, attending engineering reviews, and tracking the design schedule.

In addition, you will provide general engineering support, manage stakeholder expectations, build relationships across the wider business, and ensure compliance with quality and safety standards throughout the design lifecycle.

You will be based in Hamilton from our London St Office and be willing to travel nationally as required.

About You
You will have extensive design and project management experience within a fast-paced engineering or manufacturing environment.

You'll have a proven ability to cope with an ever-changing and busy workload effectively, coupled with excellent prioritisation and decision-making skills.

You'll be dependable, approachable, and capable of identifying and delivering solutions to the wider business.

Your strong stakeholder management skills, as well as your ability to assess risk and manage conflicting schedules and issues, will see you succeed in this key role.


We want to hear from you if you have:

  • Experience in Engineering Design and Capital Projects
  • Qualification in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Chemical or Process) and Project Management qualification, preferably in PMP but not a requirement
  • Excellent collaboration, influencing, and problemsolving skills
  • Ability to build strategic relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
