Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting an exceptional individual to join us and lead the transformation of our health, safety and wellbeing (HSW) approach.

As Head of Health, Safety, and Wellbeing you will take a pivotal role in implementing our new HSW strategy, embedding new systems and processes, strengthening our HSW maturity, and cultivating an ecosystem that prioritises the HSW of our community.

You will ensure the provision of outstanding and modern HSW support across an organisation of 4000 people, across multiple locations, and with a wide range of HSW risks.

Reporting to the Director Campus Operations, you will strategically drive transformative change in HSW culture, mindset, and practices, enabling a climate in which leaders are genuinely committed to systemic risk reduction, operational learning, and continuous improvement.

You will lead a shift towards critical control management and verification, ensure that our HSW practices are appropriately aligned to our critical risks, and are underpinned by fit-for-purpose reporting and assurance systems.

As an inspirational people leader with the presence and gravitas required to lead strategic transformation, you collaborate effectively with your peers and with executive leadership, and your highly developed communication and presentation skills support your ability to convey complex concepts and influence decisions, including at governance level.

You know when to push boundaries and challenge thinking to drive better HSW outcomes.

You will have significant experience leading and developing HSW partnering teams across large, complex, and high-risk organisations, fostering a high-performance environment.

You will have transformed organisational HSW practices and aligned them to contemporary, evidence-informed, and systems-based approaches.
