About the role:

We have multiple Senior EA opportunities available to support Members of the National Party. This is a unique and dynamic role where you'll support National MPs in the Parliamentary Precinct.


As a Senior EA you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth running of the Members Office as well as managing the complexities of the Parliamentary environment.


The ability to take the initiative and anticipate the needs of Members is a crucial aspect of this role and with time a limited resource in this environment, the aptitude to build positive relationships quickly is paramount.

This role is centred on exceptional organisation skills to manage members diaries, conflicting priorities, travel requirements, meeting preparation, coordinating administrative tasks as well as budgeting duties.


Based in the Parliamentary Precinct in Wellington, for 20 hours per week this is a truly exciting and challenging role where you'll be working to support the very machinery of Aotearoa New Zealand's democracy.


We have multiple opportunities available, accommodating both part-time (20 hours per week, supporting 1 MP) and full-time positions (x2 20-hour roles supporting 2 MPs).


Flexibility Requirement:

Due to the nature of Parliament, flexibility regarding hours is required during House sitting weeks to ensure assistance to MPs is provided.


What you will bring to the role:
You will be well-known for your agility, initiative and attention to detail in responding to competing priorities. Experience working with two managers would be advantageous.

Things are often changeable at Parliament so an appreciation for the environment and the ability to be calm, proactive and flexible will see you well-placed to thrive.

You will be able to uphold a high level of confidentiality on any matter with discretion and an earnest presence of mind.


It goes without saying that you'll have highly developed administrative capability, with the ability to work proficiently across the MS Office suite to be able to create, populate and manage databases, maintain files and uphold process and other systems as required.

Basic financial management skills will be helpful.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the smooth operation of the Member's office by providing administrative support
  • Plan and coordinate the Member's diary and ensure the schedule is followed and any changes are managed promptly, with mínimal disruption to the Member
  • Ensure the Member is always well briefed for each engagement in the diary
  • Coordinate administrative activities in the Member's office including those for meetings, functions and events; including overseeing the collation of invitations, and arrangement of facilities and catering

The pay band for the role starts at $70,000 per annum and appointments will be based on skills and experience.

All employees who work for MPs are employed on an 'events based' agreement, with your employment linked to your MP.

This role is based in the Parliamentary Precinct.

  • We will review applicant profiles as they come in and may contact you for an initial phone screening.
  • We will shortlist applicants and initiate background checks prior to interviewing to reduce the turnaround time towards the end of the process.
  • You may be invited for an interview with at least one MP and two other panel members.
  • We will be in touch to discuss next steps post interview.
