British Engines Group company, Stephenson Gobin, is a rapidly growing business specialising in the design and manufacture of electromagnetic solutions.

Stephenson Gobin operates from a manufacturing facility in Bishop Auckland, County Durham.

As a Production Manager, you will manage the machine shop and assembly process to maximise output with a key focus on proactively driving and implementing continuous improvement. You will create a process driven culture and remove variation in all areas whilst working with the operations manager to ensure short and medium term goals are achieved.

What you'll be doing

  • Achieve and maintain right first time and on time delivery of products.
  • Continuously drive efficiency and output, with process controls and automation.
  • Develop a lean, process driven, Six Sigma best practice culture to improve people, product, quality and performance whilst reducing cost.
  • Maintain all machinery and site facilities.
  • Implement best practice manufacturing methods.
  • Proactively drive the manufacturing strategic objectives.
  • Effectively manage headcount, skill level and motivation.
  • Ensure clear communication and promote a proactive culture
  • Ensure the correct skill level and/or training is provided to deliver productivity and meet business needs.
  • Maintain good working relationships to promote a motivated and informed workforce.
  • Ensure staff adhere to company policies, procedures and processes.
  • Demonstrate effective people management skills through coaching, performance management and dealing with any employee issues.
  • In conjunction with the HSE manager, lead HSE audit processes, investigate and support all incidents, ensure standard operating procedures (SOP's) and risk assessments are in place and all equipment and machinery are safe to operate and comply with statutory standards. Drive HSE objectives to ensure they are monitored and updated.
  • Ensure adherence to quality systems and procedures within your scope of work i.e. first and last off inspections, completing and recording in-process checks, capturing statistical process control (SPC) data.
  • Support the quality team with root cause analysis and counter measures.
  • Create SOPs and component inspection sheets.
  • Liaise with design on jig and fixture design, routing amendments and ensuring processes are capable of achieving drawing tolerances.
  • Support the production planner with amendments to work lists.
  • Drive good housekeeping, implement continuous improvement and support and engage in lean activity.
  • Trouble shoot manufacturing issues, collate and report data.

Who we're looking for

To apply, we ask that you are an experienced Production Manager with significant experience working in an engineering/manufacturing environment, ideally in high precision machining and electromagnetic assembly.

You will be educated to HNC level or equivalent, with a relevant management/leadership qualification. Nebosh general certificate and six-sigma green belt qualification would be advantageous.

You will have experience managing teams in manufacturing processes, including staffing levels and machine capacity planning. You will be experienced in implementing and maintaining HSE standards and able to demonstrate people management, including attendance and absence management, performance management and carrying out investigations/disciplinary processes.

We are looking for someone who is a strong leader, results orientated, with ability to plan and deliver against production deadlines. If you are able to demonstrate strong problem solving abilities and a proactive, positive and enthusiastic approach to adopt and implement new ideas and processes we would love to hear from you.

This position will be on a full time, permanent basis, and working day shift hours of 38.75 per week.
