About the Group:

Enabling Good Lives (EGL)'Enabling Good Lives' is the title of a 2011 report that the Minister of Disability Issues commissioned from a group representing the disability sector.

It is a busy time for us, and we are expanding the team.

To be successful in this role you will be/have:

  • Experience implementing a disability rights-based approach as part of a professional role. In depth knowledge and understanding of Enabling Good Lives vision, principles and practices
  • Knowledge of Whāia Te Ao Marama, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Disabled Persons and the NZ Disability Strategy.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in enabling disabled children and adults, their family and whānau, particularly tāngata whaikaha, to have greater choice and control over the supports they receive and the lives they lead. Demonstrated connections with Māori networks. Experience in working with Māori and Māori communities and an understanding of cultural differences. Experience supporting and influencing team members to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Experience working in and influencing systems and processes that are transformational for disabled people, particularly tāngata whaikaha. Leadership of, or experience in significantly influencing, community change projects.

About the role:

The Project-Lead Maaori role is a full time position responsible for strengthening the work of Enabling Good Lives Waikato alongside tāngata whaikaha and whānau and leading key community relationships and developments across the region.

To achieve these, you will be/have:

  • Lead and contribute in ways consistent with the EGL vision, principles and outcomes
  • Ensure the EGL team develops culturally responsive practice
  • Work creatively with the disabled person and their family/whānau to connect them with their community; consider what is working well for them; what could be established to encourage their specific aspirations; and how opportunities in the community could be developed.
