Our Wellington office is currently seeking an experienced Technical Director - Water to become an integral member of our Central Water Business Group.

This senior role focuses on building and strengthening our water business through the delivery of projects and technical leadership, coaching and mentoring our people whilst offering innovative solutions for our internal, existing and new clients across the local government and private sectors.

Advance GHDs presence in the wider market through agreed National initiatives

Key responsibilities will include

General:

  • Support project delivery as Project Director, Technical Lead and/or Design Manager.
  • Assist BGL and TL's to mentor and develop team members to their full potential, including provision for succession planning
  • Contribute to developing and implementing the National Water Market Sector Business Plan, working in collaboration with other regions
  • Support GHDs technical response to emerging changes in design delivery
  • Building GHD market presence through involvement in Industry forums, Industry groups, key client relationship building
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with clients, Project Directors and Project Managers across New Zealand
  • Support collaboration with other GHD Regions particularly Australia, Manila and Fiji/Pacific through Project Delivery
  • Facilitate the integration of Digital and Advisory Service offerings to our clients and Project Delivery
  • Knowledge keep knowledge and competencies current, guide staff and contribute to GHD Global Knowledge Base, actively advocate and show leadership with involvement in Technical Service lines


 Quality Assurance
  • Lead by example delivery of high quality reports, correspondence and other deliverables

Duties

  • Technical Delivery lead the delivery of technical outputs, particularly civil and hydraulic design, for options development, feasibility studies, concept, preliminary and detailed design, and tender documentation including:
  • Pump stations and rising mains
  • Transmission gravity/pressure mains / networks
  • Water/ Wastewater treatment plants
  • Stormwater pipelines and structures
  • Act as Technical Lead for water, stormwater and wastewater projects across NZ
  • Promote relationships with clients with the aim of increasing business by improving client relationships and promoting the value chain to strengthen repeat business opportunities
  • Provide support to business initiatives nationally, including active participation on the Water Leadership Group where applicable
  • Provide Technical support and Leadership including mentoring and coaching to uplift team skills, proactive identification and integration of advancing approaches, active involvement and promotion of Technical Service Lines
  • Work collaboratively with the other Water business groups across NZ as well as with other sectors to ensure GHD is best positioned for and successfully secures major multidisciplinary opportunities
  • Drive and manage the Client Satisfaction of GHD, providing feedback and guidance to Project Directors/Managers as and when required.

What you will bring to the team:

  • BE (Civil) or other relevant tertiary education
  • Chartered Engineer
  • A minimum of 20 years experience in a Consulting or similar environment
  • Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills;
  • Good computer skills including Microsoft office suite

  • Excellent report writing skills
  • Proven experience on multidiscipline projects.
