Does escaping into the wilderness for an adventure in the most pristine natural areas of the Fiordland National Park sound like a great day at the office to you? If you have a passion for connecting with people, can spin an informative and entertaining yarn and have a drive to make an unforgettable experience for each and every one of your manuhiri (guests), then we have the job for you


The Hollyford Wilderness Experience is certainly not your usual walk in the park, it takes our manuhiri down the Hollyford Valley following the path of Māori and early Europeans alike.

You will get to meet people from all over Aotearoa and the world with no two days being the same.

From tramping through primal beech forest, taking a dip in the refreshing waters of the Hollyford below towering peaks, sharing the thrill of a jetboat ride, stopping to take in the birdsong though the ancient Podocarp forests, wandering the unique sand dunes of Whakatipu Waitai (Martins Bay), wowing over a breath-taking scenic helicopter flight into Milford Sound, to taking advantage of the hot showers and sharing kai in the relaxed atmosphere of our well-appointed lodges; the Hollyford has it all.

We are searching for engaging and energetic guides who thrive in the dynamic outdoors to safely lead our small groups on this spectacular journey.

You will be weaving kōrero (stories), bringing to life the history & geology of the area and sharing your knowledge of the incredible vegetation and wildlife this unique area is renowned for.


You may already be an experienced guide or eager to learn - we have available positions for the right personality at different experience levels with lead and co-guide roles available.


The Hollyford has a dedicated and supportive team environment, where we are constantly striving to develop our world-class guiding team.

We will provide you with in-depth knowledge specific to the area and an outdoor First Aid certificate (6000 series & 424) as part of your training.

Hollyford offers highly competitive industry rates, terms and conditions. Transport, food, and accommodation are provided whilst you are guiding.

  • Can impress our manuhiri with your exceptional customer service skills and attention to detail
  • Have a passion for engaging with and caring for people
  • Have experience tramping and/or guiding in Aotearoa / New Zealand
  • Keen to learn and grow your guiding knowledge
  • Lead guides will have great story telling abilities


The successful applicant will have an understanding of, or an eagerness to learn and engage with our Ngāi Tahu values and te reo Māori.

You must be available to work from the beginning of October 2023 through to the end of April 2024.


Health and Safety is super important and is an essential part of how we keep you, our team and our customers safe.

Before starting with us, you will go through a range of checks, including drug and alcohol testing.
