The National Cyber Policy Office sits within the National Security Policy Directorate (NSPD) in the National Security Group - one of the eight DPMC business units.

The role of the National Cyber Policy Office is to provide policy and thought leadership on national cyber security strategy and policy issues.

An opportunity has become available for a talented policy professional to join the National Cyber Policy Office. You will be joining a dynamic, high performing team, navigating some of New Zealand's most pressing policy challenges. The team works collaboratively on cross-cutting projects and offers a unique environment for its policy professionals.

You will play a leading role advising on complex and challenging cyber policy issues including delivering excellent policy analysis and advice, shaping the work programme, developing team members, and working constructively with stakeholders.

You don't need to have a technical cyber security or IT background for this role.

  • An interest in national security, or in working to provide better outcomes for New Zealanders
  • Experience providing sophisticated policy advice on complex, challenging projects, at pace
  • Exceptional ability to engage and influence others within and outside the organisation
  • Demonstrated capability in working with Ministers, senior officials, internal and external stakeholders
  • Knowledge of government priorities and relevant political context
  • Sound judgement, organisational and political nous, critical and lateral thinking
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills persuasive, collaborative, and inspiring
  • Experience developing others through coaching and mentoring
  • Experience leading the delivery of substantial pieces of legislation, from policy development through all stages of the legislative process, would be an advantage

Eligibility requirements:

To be eligible for the position, you must have been a NZ citizen for at least 10 years.

Alternatively, you must hold NZ Permanent Residence or hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and have been a citizen of UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years.
