Sport Canterbury is the Regional Sports Trust (RST) serving the Canterbury and West Coast region. Our Vision is 'More People, More Active, More Often' and everything we do is about getting and keeping people engaged in sport and physical activity.

Sport Canterbury is seeking a Sport Development Lead to work alongside our sporting partners to support the ongoing growth and development of the sport sector with a focus on driving positive sport outcomes, primarily through coaching and competition structures, to provide better quality sporting opportunities and experiences for rangatahi.

This is a full-time role based in our Hornby office and may also occasionally involve work with the community outside of normal working hours. Responsibilities for the roles include:

  • Supporting Reginal Sporting Organisations (RSO's), the secondary school network, and other relevant organisations in the development and implementation of appropriate coaching frameworks.
  • Supporting partner organisations to prioritise and influence the provision of inclusive opportunities and experiences priority population including young women and disabled rangatahi.
  • Supporting the Sport Canterbury Rangatahi Lead – Sport and Active Recreation, to advocate for the development and delivery of positive and supportive competition/participation environments.
  • Developing, implementing, and leading sector wide advisory groups with a focus on volunteer recruitment and retention framework, as well as officials' development.
  • Supporting the implementation of a sector wide capability enhancement framework.
  • Working with the Rangatahi Lead – Sport and Active Recreation, to embed Balance is Better into the delivery of sport across RSO's and the secondary school network.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of a sector wide sideline behaviour framework.
  • Reporting in an effective and timely way on Sport outcomes and stories of success for stakeholders.

The candidate will need a full, clean driver's license and must have the right to live and work in New Zealand.
