Wellington, Wellington, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time

The Office of the Auditor-General Te Mana Arotake (the Office) aims to improve trust and promote value in the public sector.

The Auditor-General is the statutory auditor of all public organisations, including government departments, local authorities, and schools.

Our audits of public organisations play a major part in ensuring that New Zealand's public sector remains one of the most trusted in the world.

No other organisation, public or private, has the overview of the whole public sector that the Office of the Auditor-General has.

The Advisor, International Engagement will support the Director, International Engagement in delivering the Office's international engagements and accountabilities. This is an opportunity to be part of the Office's wide-ranging capacity-building work in the Pacific region.

In this role, you'll be working closely with the Pacific Association of Supreme Audit Institutions (PASAI), Pacific SAIs, and the Auditor-General in his role as auditor for the Governments of Niue and Tokelau.

You'll be helping to manage international correspondence, the logistics of official visits, and the Office's relationships with international stakeholders.

You'll need strong financial knowledge, as the role involves supporting the financial reporting and monitoring of the PASAI's Secretariat and of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade's funding of our work in the Pacific region.

To be successful in this role, you'll have:

  • well-developed verbal and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to develop and deliver material for a range of audiences and platforms;
- experience advising and providing one-on-one and group training to improve capacity and align operations with best practice;
- a resilient personality with a good common-sense approach to working with unfamiliar tasks;
- the ability to identify and respond appropriately to risks;
- a collaborative working style that enjoys building and maintaining positive stakeholder relationships and effective networks between and within organisations, including in a cross-cultural environment; and
- a highly organised, detail oriented, and innovative approach.

Ideally, you'll have:

- a relevant tertiary qualification (preferably in international development, political science, accounting, or auditing) or equivalent knowledge and experience;
- an understanding of the public sector and the machinery of government;
- previous secretariat experience in providing governance support to committees or teams, including compiling agendas and recording minutes; and
- project management and international engagement experience.

The ideal applicant must be able to gain and maintain a secret national security clearance.

Ordinarily, this means that you must be a New Zealand citizen, be a permanent resident, or hold a current residency class visa and intend to become a citizen when eligible.

You must have a five-year checkable background in New Zealand, the UK, the USA, Canada, or Australia. Use this online tool to self-check your eligibility for a security clearance. Please note that this tool is not part of the formal security clearance process.

We offer our staff:
