The Principal Advisor works closely with the Manager - Engagement to successfully embed TPHM's Engagement and Communication Strategy and to offer a high level of engagement service to the TPHM Hautū, including internal communications and change.


This position will also lead the planning and implementation of engagement support for Te Rautaki Rawa Kura - the School Property Strategy.


Engagement support may include creating and implementation of communication plans, supporting issues resolution, supporting ministerial correspondence and media responses, intranet content, social media content and leader communication material.


This position will provide mentorship of other members of the Engagement team to ensure delivery of the highest quality of work.

Mōhou ake | About you


If you have experience in leading with influence, strong relationship management and communications skills - both strategically and in delivery - we're keen to hear from you.

You will be able to work positively across the group, with a purposeful and innovative approach. You will bring a knowledgeable, calm, positive and proactive style to stakeholder engagement.


You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori.

You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.


You will also demonstrate:

  • Experience delivering communications and stakeholder engagement at a Principal Advisor level
  • Strategic communications planning ability and experience
  • A solid understanding of internal communications
  • Experience delivering change communications
  • A warm and collegial working style

At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whanau.

To better deliver on this, we are currently undergoing an organisational design change. The transition phase to improve the way we deliver our purpose will be complete in 2023.
