Looking to use your intelligence background in a team vital to protecting New Zealand's economic security?

  • Are you curious and comfortable approaching situations critically to challenge the status quo?
  • Are you interested in playing a key role in delivering benefits to New Zealand and protecting New Zealand's sensitive land and assets?
Toitū Te Whenua - Land Information New Zealand

Toitū Te Whenua Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) is the government's lead agency for location and property information, Crown land and managing overseas investment.

We work across land, sea, data, Crown property and regulatory areas.

Guided by the whakatauki 'Whatungarongaro te tangata toitū te whenua' [people come and go, but the land remains], our purpose is 'understanding, developing and caring for whenua, moana and arawai'.

Our organisation is made up of passionate, engaged and talented people.

We have recently landed an exciting change at LINZ that focused on how we could become more integrated and connected internally, and with our customers.

As an organisation we are now set up to provide varied paths to support career development and exposure to work for our people.

The Compliance Team

The Compliance Team is part of the Regulatory Practice and Delivery Group, principally working on compliance matters under the Overseas Investment Act 2005, but with responsibilities extending across the regulatory regimes administered by LINZ.

We are a tight-knit, multi-disciplinary, team consisting of lawyers, investigators, and intelligence professionals who work closely together on a wide range of compliance issues.

The Compliance Team is responsible for identifying and investigating possible breaches of the regulatory regimes LINZ administers and taking enforcement action where appropriate.

We also house the intelligence function for LINZ and are responsible for producing intelligence products to identify risks and opportunities and help inform decision makers.

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

A key aspect of the role is supporting the National Security and Public Order regime under the Overseas Investment Act, under which we are required to identify and screen overseas investments that may pose national security risks.

You will be responsible for the production of assessments determining the risk of specific investments, and strategic reporting on emerging risks and trends.

You will be required to communicate your assessments to a range of partner agency stakeholders and ministerial decision makers.

As a senior member of the team, you will be required to support the training and development of your colleagues.

Your expertise in intelligence or economic analysis will support the growth of the team.

You will need excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills as you will work with your counterparts across government on these matters.

You will have an enquiring mind, the ability to analyse and make sense of a wide range of information or data, and the courage to challenge the status quo.

You will also be required to provide intelligence products to assist the Compliance team to identify, and investigate, possible breaches of the Overseas Investment Act and other regulatory regimes administered by LINZ.

Tono mai - How to Apply
Applications close Monday 13th May 2024. This role is based in our Wellington Office.

You may notice that the Position Description title for this role (Customer Regulatory Specialist - Level toru/three) doesn't match the advertised title.
