This role is a part time on-going role working in the Pacific Health Unit based in the Wellington Regional Hospital, serving Pacific patients and their families.

We offer you the opportunity to join our highly motivated and professional team.

In this exciting role you will be responsible for critical services that ensures Pacific patients can better navigate health services in the hospital setting.

You will also play an integral role in their recovery and continued care in the community, through partnering with patients and their families, clinicians and community providers to formulate a health care plan that meets their needs.


This role is a dynamic role providing you with exceptional opportunities for career development and refine your interpersonal skills through interacting with patients from diverse Pacific ethnic backgrounds.

We place high emphasis on staff education and development to deliver high quality, holistic and safe care at all times.

The Pacific Health Unit is a multidisciplinary team, led by a Specialty Clinical Nurse with the support of a Pacific Registered Nurse, a Pacific Social Worker, Pacific In-Patient Navigator and an Administrator.

The unit works to ensure Pacific patients have a positive patient journey and receive high quality health care.

The team supports patients through providing cultural, language, advocacy services and makes referrals as needed to appropriate community providers and specialists.


Our services include:

  • Patient and family advocacy
  • Health literacy support
  • Referrals to community support services
  • Cultural support
  • Pacific language translations
  • Social work support for complex cultural and social dynamics.
We are based in Wellington Hospital however, we cover both Wellington and Kenepuru hospitals.

This role is a patient facing role working directly with patients and their families, clinicians and community providers

You will:

  • Have great interpersonal skills to connect with patients and families
  • Instil confidence in patients and colleagues through being positive, enthusiastic and proactive
  • Have excellent communication, documentation and time management skills
  • Have awareness of and sensitivity to individual and cultural differences
  • Be fluent in your Pacific ethnic language
  • Have relationship management skills and ability to facilitate relationships with a variety of peoples and stakeholders
  • Be motivated, innovative and committed to improving outcomes for Pacific patients.
