Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role
Do you combine construction sector expertise with a passion for leading, supporting and getting the best out of people? Do you have a track record of working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes? This role manages a team of Construction Observers who work with our schools, delivery teams and contractors to ensure quality, compliant learning environments are delivered for future generations.
Key role responsibilities include:
- Leadership and responsibility for a team of Construction Observers
- Determining whether construction on a range of projects has been completed according to specified construction documents and reporting findings
- Risk identification, recording and mitigation
- Internal and external stakeholder engagement and management
- The first escalation point for any issues within the team

Mōhou ake | About you
You will be a people-focused leader with a proven ability to develop people and teams, and you will have led successful teams of technical professionals.
You will also be able to articulate the importance of Treaty principles in how you engage with Māori stakeholders and staff.
You could potentially come from a background as a foreman, builder, architect or surveyor or a leadership role in the trade industry.
Your experience underpins your solid technical understanding of the New Zealand development and building industry, design and building processes, and the relevant industry Acts and Codes.
Using the skills developed throughout your career, you will strive to get the best from your team and foster a positive, collaborative culture with a focus on continuous improvement.
