It's an exciting time to join Mercury as we invest in new renewable generation while developing New Zealand's best renewable pipeline.

We're not just talking about wind farm projects - we're getting on with delivering them Earlier this year we completed New Zealand's largest wind farm and we're now starting construction on stage 2 of our latest wind farm at Kaiwera Downs near Gore.

In addition to our construction projects, we also have a robust and diverse pipeline of renewable options across the country and we're on the hunt for new opportunities.


We are seeking an experienced Project Developer Renewables to join our team in a pivotal role in driving our ambitious renewable energy pipeline and contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable energy landscape.

The role applies leadership and expertise across strategy, technical, commercial, project and programme management to coordinate, implement and execute development projects.


While preference is for this role to be based in Tauranga, there is flexibility for the role to be based in Auckland and Hamilton.


In this role you will focus on:

  • Developing renewable energy projects from prospecting and feasibility through to Financial Investment Decision
  • Actively work with management and other internal stakeholders and personnel to identify and progress development opportunities.
  • Assist/lead due diligence and proposals for prospective renewable energy project acquisitions

We are looking for:

  • Minimum graduate level degree in Engineering, Engineering Science or related technical discipline
  • 5+ years' experience in project development role with preference for experience in the renewables or energy infrastructure space
  • Strong relationship management skills
  • Able to make decisions assessing commercial and technical inputs.
  • Capable of assessing risks and formulating action plans.
  • Ability to critically review necessary design and development documentation to ensure best for project outcomes.
