The Commercial Delivery Assistant is a key role contributing to and delivering tasks within the procurement lifecycle (plan, source, manage) for the ICT team.

This role is part of Defence Commercial Services' ICT Procurement Practice, which procures ICT related goods and services on behalf of NZDF.

The Practice primarily supports Defence Digital Group (DDG) but addresses all of NZDF's ICT supplier sourced requirements.

You will provide accurate and timely assistance in the administration of procurement processes, procedures and systems to ensure organisational effectiveness.

The role is at the foundation level within the Commercial Delivery Team and provides an opportunity for you to grow and develop your career within a strategic procurement environment.


Please note:

You can base yourself in either Trentham, Petone or Wellington CBD.

Once you are trained and established in the role you will have the option to establish a flexible working arrangement.

You will need to have flexibility to work from either Trentham, Petone or Wellington CBD as required.

You will have strong administrative skills with the ability to organise workflow and determine priorities.

Your problem solving abilities, initiative, high attention to detail, numerical skills and professionalism are crucial to your success in this position.


You will have:

  • Excellent relationship management and communication skills with the ability to effectively engage with a wide range of people;
  • The ability to use good judgement and work with mínimal supervision; and
  • An interest and willingness to learn about procurement, contract negotiations and contract management.
Experience with SAP and existing knowledge of the procurement environment would be advantageous but it is not essential.

Defence Commercial Services (DCS) is a unit within the wider Joint Defence Services (JDS) Portfolio.

DCS leads and enables the wider NZDF Commercial function; including procurement planning, sourcing, contracting, strategic supplier relationship and contract management.

This is achieved by delivering enabling policies, frameworks, training and systems; and the monitoring of commercial risk and performance across the organisation.

DCS performs centralised commercial and business processing functions for NZDF, and offers a range of value adding services to internal customers - including access to professional expertise and advice.

Every hour of every day, 365 days of the year, the New Zealand Defence Force is contributing to the defence, security and well-being of Aotearoa / New Zealand.

- is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last five years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.
