Job Description
He aha te tūranga - About the role:
Our Community Education team provides learning experiences for primary and intermediate school-aged children to empower them for life. This is a fantastic permanent part-time role, with great flexibility to plan and schedule your working week of 4 days (32hrs). Programme delivery will be within school opening hours, however, any planning, preparation, and admin can be done at a time that suits you.
- 32 hours per week - start date 19 January 2026
- Southland based - travel to centres/schools/kura is required, from Bluff through to Te Anau, and the surrounding areas
- Work use car provided
- $29 per hour
This role will work across the Southland region, delivering two distinct education programmes which serve different purposes, both of which are equally vital. Our two programmes:
- Whātuia te Waiora (Weaving Wellbeing) - a mental health module for Year 7&8 students
- St John in Schools - first aid training to tamariki of all ages
With both curricula already designed, you will be responsible for providing a vibrant, high-energy programme that captures the attention and interest of our tamariki and inspires them to take responsibility for their health and wellbeing and the wellbeing of others.
Qualifications
Ko wai koe - About you:
To be successful in this role, you will:
- A passion for working with young people and engaging them in a meaningful way
- Understanding and appreciation of different cultures and diverse learning styles
- Excellent time management and organisation skills
- Full NZ driving license
- Whilst not essential, a basic knowledge of Te Reo Māori is highly desirable

What happens during school holidays?
You have a few options during school holidays. These include:
- Running sessions for early childhood education (ECE) or holiday programmes,
- Taking annual leave, and/or
- Opting for leave without pay.
We'll work with you to find the best fit for your needs.
How much admin is involved?
Approximately 20% of your role will involve administrative tasks.
Who books the education sessions?
To start with, we'll take care of booking sessions for you as you settle into the role. Once you're comfortable, you'll take the lead in contacting kura/schools to arrange sessions and explore opportunities with new sites.
