Demand for our world-first sustainable biographite battery material is now accelerating around the world. To support this exciting growth, we are extending our Marlborough production facility further.

This role is to support the operation of CarbonScape's laboratory by conducting research and development, sample analytics, data analysis and reporting.

The position

Reporting to the Director of R&D, your roles and responsibilities will include:

  • receiving, labeling and safely storing samples to be tested
  • determining and performing tests needed for analysis and quality control
  • keeping record of all tests and analyses
  • discussing and answering questions regarding the results with the production team
  • maintaining equipment records and daily work logs
  • develop new standards for sampling and create testing protocols
  • assist operations in tracking, documenting and reporting quality levels of all intermediate materials
  • work with lab manager to implement a comprehensive quality assurance methodology in line with chemical industry best practices
  • maintain, calibrate and operate analytical equipment
  • write reports, reviews and summaries
  • keep up to date with relevant scientific and technical developments
  • carry out risk assessments and general H&S compliance
  • order and maintain laboratory and equipment stock and resources
  • prepare reports and provide feedback to the Management Team members

We are looking for a candidate with:

  • Relevant science qualification and over 3 years of proven experience in a laboratory role.
  • Experience in operating and maintaining analytical instruments.
  • Experience with chemical analysis and instrumental techniques, such as PSD, BET, XRD, XRF, Tap Density, ICP, SEM and TGA.
  • Demonstrated capacity for compiling, analysing and reporting complex data
  • Computer literacy and knowledge of MS Office, ability to programme in Python would be a plus
  • The ability to work as part of a diverse team
  • Accuracy and strong attention to detail
  • Familiarity with chemical processing equipment would be preferred, specifically: slurry mixing, heat treatment, leaching, filtering and drying.
