About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to join our Level 4 Operating Rooms at Auckland City Hospital.
Level 4 ORs comprise 7 operating theatres, including a hybrid theatre, providing 24/7 elective and acute surgical services across cardiothoracic, adult congenital, heart and lung transplantation, ORL and inventional specialties.
As the CNS, you will be part of a skilled and supportive senior nursing team, contributing to high-quality perioperative care and service development in one of the most complex surgical environments in Aotearoa New Zealand. This role combines clinical leadership, education, quality improvement, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

About you
We are looking for an enthusiastic senior nurse who is passionate about excellence in cardiothoracic perioperative care and supporting the ongoing development of our nursing teams.
You will:
- Hold a current New Zealand Nursing Council registration and Annual Practising Certificate
- Hold a postgraduate nursing qualification (or be working towards one) a Master of Nursing is advantageous
- Have extensive cardiothoracic OR experience and expert clinical knowledge
- Demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams
- Be confident working both autonomously and as part of a team
- Bring advanced assessment, critical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrate leadership ability, with proven teaching and coaching capability
- Be adaptable, solutions-focused, and committed to continuous improvement
- Act as a specialist resource for nursing and OR colleagues
- Contribute to quality initiatives, clinical pathways, equipment management, and surgical innovation within the specialty
- You will play a key role in ensuring all OR nurses maintain the clinical skills and knowledge required for safe and effective cardiothoracic OR practice.
