Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role
The position of Lecturer in Psychology is an exciting opportunity to make a significant contribution to Te Kura Whatu Oho Mauri, The School of Psychological and Social Sciences.
We are looking for a stellar individual who will bring professional and academic experience to facilitate our portfolio of research, teaching, and postgraduate supervision in the areas of developmental psychology, perception, and cognitive neuroscience. The ideal candidate will have skills across more than one of these areas in addition to the capacity to provide leadership and innovation in teaching.
Along with teaching, your well-defined programme of research will help to advance the research capacities of the School. You will also develop a range of strategic research initiatives and engage with the wider community as a consequence of your research activities.
Salary will be in the range of $90,125 to $110,407 per year based on skills, knowledge and experience brought to the position. This is a full-time role (37.5 hours a week), based on our Hillcrest Campus.

Ko wai koe? – Who are you?
You will have PhD in a relevant discipline with broad and in-depth knowledge of discipline areas that are relevant to the fields of either developmental psychology, perception, or cognitive neuroscience. The ideal candidate will have skills in more than one of these three subfields of psychology. You will have a peer reviewed publication record indicative of success in research within your subfields. You will have a clear research plan inclusive of several significant concepts that you will be developing to facilitate the field and your academic career.
Ko wai mātou? – Who are we?
Te Kura Whatu Oho Mauri has lab based facilities on site including an EEG suite, a virtual reality system, eye tracking facilities, and a fully equipped driving simulator. We have existing links with local hospitals and external agencies for an array of research activities including fMRI work, concussion research, and ultrasound and fetal research.
Te Wānanga o Ngā Kete the Division of Arts, Law, Psychology and Social Sciences (ALPSS) is a large and dynamic Division that includes Te Kura Toi the School of Arts, Te Kura Whatu Oho Mauri the School of Psychological and Social Sciences, and the School of Law, Politics, and Philosophy. The Division also has two research institutes: Te Ngira the Institute for Population Research (IPR) and Te Puna Haumaru the New Zealand Institute for Security and Crime Science (NZISCS).
