Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role

The Lecturer in Anthropology is an exciting opportunity to make a significant contribution to Te Kura Whatu Oho Mauri, the School of Psychological and Social Sciences, within the field of Anthropology.  

We are looking for a dynamic individual who will bring professional and academic experience to be part of a team dedicated to excellence in research, teaching, and postgraduate supervision. You will have the skills and experience to provide leadership and innovation in teaching. Along with teaching, your well-defined programme of research will help to advance research capacities, develop a range of strategic research initiatives and engage with the professional community. 

Salary will be in the range of $90,125 to $110,407 per year based on skills, knowledge and experience brought to the position. This is a full-time permanent role (37.5 hours a week), based on our Hillcrest Campus.

You will have a PhD in Anthropology or a related field, with a defined research programme including clear evidence of conducting high quality research. You will be a committed academic with a strong background in Anthropology. You will have a demonstrated ability to teach and inspire students, coupled with excellent communication skills. You will be passionate about the study of human experiences and eager to bring your knowledge and expertise to a supportive and collaborative academic environment.

Te Wānanga o Ngā Kete, the Division of Arts, Law, Psychology, and Social Sciences (ALPSS), brings together a diverse and dynamic range of academic disciplines. Te Kura Whatu Oho Mauri, the School of Psychological and Social Sciences, focuses on the foundational aspects of psychology, covering areas such as behaviour, cognition, and indigenous psychology, in both teaching and research. It also fosters a strong research culture with a wide array of interests, methodologies, and contexts.

The Anthropology Programme offers degrees at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels, with a current focus on sociocultural anthropology. The programme is known for attracting indigenous students and fostering collegiality with both local and international academic networks. The programme explores a wide range of issues, including the environment and climate change, racism and ethnic conflict, religion and spirituality, media and visual culture, politics, power relationships, finance and trade.
