About the Role

Our Cardiology ward leads New Zealand in providing specialist cardiovascular nursing care based on clinical skill, research, education, and innovation. Our commitment is to the highest level of clinical care to our patients from central and Regional Auckland/Northland, as well as across the rest of New Zealand. Cardiology services that provide high quality care to patients Cardiology has both elective and acute admissions for a range of procedures and illnesses including:

  • Angiography/Angioplasty
  • Electrophysiology/Device procedures
  • Regional Pre-operative Cardiac Surgery
  • Pre-operative Valve repair and replacements, post TAVI
  • Adult congenital cardiac surgery
  • Heart Failure
  • Endocarditis

The Charge Nurse is accountable for nursing professional and practice standards, ensuring nursing staff safely and effectively meet the clinical nursing care needs of patients and their family/whānau in the area of care they are responsible for.

This role is responsible for inpatients in a ward or department. It specifically serves the service and patient speciality populations as well as the sub-speciality of patients at Te Toka Tumai.

The Charge Nurse leads the team to model the vision and values of Te Toka Tumai and contributes to the directorate and organisational strategic direction.

About you

  • A commitment to biculturalism

  • New Zealand nursing registration, RGON, RN BHSc (Nursing)
  • Postgraduate certificate/ diploma in speciality nursing practice
  • Post-Grad Dip or working Towards completion of Masters Degree
  • Minimum of five years experience post registration in Cardiology
  • Expert clinical practice
  • Sound understanding of professional ethics
  • Current clinical competence in relevant place of practice
  • Advance quality of service skills
  • Ability to critique and use research findings is the basis for practice
